LAD/Blog #24: Populist (People's) Party Platform

Members of the working class formed the Populist Party in St. Louis to protect their rights from bankers, corporations, and politicians. Their grievances were the consolidation of land into capitalists' hands,  the silencing of free speech, and the corruption of the government due to the capitalists' power.  They claimed they would solve the problems of the working class if they were put in power. They also claimed they thought money should belong to the person who earned it, civil service exams should be required, and public transportation should be controlled by the government. In the Declaration of Sentiments, the Populists demand 8 hour work days, one term presidencies, fair elections, and pensions to ex union workers.
