Sox was a first generation Japanese American and was forced into an internment camp during World War Two. Her family had to sell all their belongings for less then they were worth and move out of their home within a week. The conditions in the camps described were shocking, especially since they took place in the US. It was disgusting and dehumanizing that they had to live in dirty horse stables, and was hard to imagine something like this actually happened in American history. FDR's Executive Order 9066 had created the internment camps. The issues were resolved significantly in 1988 with the passage of the Civil Liberties Act. This act gave all those who were detained $20,000 in hope of attaining forgiveness.
